Experts call
For new city

A NEW city has been proposed to boost nine counties.

Based around Knock Airport, Co Mayo, the plan covers 30 square miles – with a projected 100,000 population.

Plans for the futuristic city have been sent to Science Minister Noel Treacy.

Option

The authors, including Galway County Council Engineer John McMyler, suggest the new city should have a minister for the west, and house a number of key Government departments.

They say a new city to rejuvenate Mayo, Sligo, Galway; Donegal, Fermanagh, Leitrim, Longford, Roscommon and Westmeath is the only real option for the west to compete with the massive development in the east.
